About My Healthy Plate

MHP Salud and our partners developed the following culturally-competent healthy food plate brochures that include the cultural traditions and dietary preferences of diverse communities, to learn about best practices when choosing to eat healthier. Each brochure provides easy-to-follow instructions on how to read food labels and includes culturally appropriate food suggestions for each of the five food groups: grains, breads, cereals, proteins, vegetables, fruits, and dairy. Additionally, the brochures include relatable ways to manage and measure portions when building a healthy plate. The resources are offered in multiple languages and most importantly include community feedback collected through national surveys created specifically for these projects.

Each plate is in alignment with the USDA Health Plate recommendations. MHP Salud worked with HEBNI,  a community-based, not-for-profit agency formed to educate high-risk, culturally diverse populations about nutrition strategies to prevent diet-related diseases, to analyze the dietary preferences of different populations. This collaboration was used as a basis for all of our healthy plate resources.

Who We’ve Worked With

We’ve collaborated with health centers and partners from across the country to further close the gap of health disparities and improve health outcomes for special and vulnerable populations. Our team of experts utilizes data collected from our nearly four decades of experience implementing CHW programs and input from partners and professionals within the CHW industry to ensure our resources provide the best information and build other organizations’ capacity to deliver effective programming for their unique populations.

Our Healthy Eating Plate for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders was developed in collaboration with The Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations (AAPCHO). The organization was formed to create a national voice to advocate for the unique and diverse health needs of their populations and the community health providers that serve them.

My Healthy Plate for Arabic Americans was developed in collaboration with The Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services (ACCESS). For 50 years, ACCESS has been empowering Arabic American communities to improve their health and their economic, social and cultural well-being.
