Aging in Style: Health Topics among Hispanics/Latinos
Most older adults would prefer to live out their golden years in the comfort of their homes. This population continues to grow more diverse – by 2060, Hispanic Americans are projected to make up 21% of the entire older adult population.1 For Hispanic/Latino elders, there are unique challenges to safely aging in place including managing multiple chronic diseases, language barriers, difficulty navigating the US health care system, minimal financial resources to meet the needs that come with aging at home, receiving sufficient support for family caregivers, and maintaining important connections with loved ones. As this population grows, it will become even more important for service providers to understand how to meet these needs.
MHP Salud and Knapp Community Care Foundation Team Up to Provide COVID-19 Safety Kits in the Rio Grande Valley
MHP Salud has been awarded $15,000 in funding by the Knapp Community Care Foundation to provide COVID-19 emergency care supplies to hundreds of our project participants that reside in the Rio Grande Valley. The funding will allow Community Health Workers (CHWs) to prepare kits with face masks, hand sanitizer, a water bottle, mesh bags, educational materials, and other vital supplies.

We hear the word diabetes very frequently-- maybe we know someone who suffers from it, a family member, a friend, or even ourselves. Without a doubt, diabetes management and control brings its own challenges. Unfortunately, some populations may face additional barriers depending on where we are born, grow, live, work, and age. Community Health Workers (CHWs) play an important role in helping patients overcome these barriers and support them to achieve a healthy lifestyle and good quality of life.
