The health and economic benefits of breastfeeding for maternal and infant health are well documented. Despite breastfeeding’s distinction as an important public health issue, breastfeeding rates among the U.S. Hispanic population fall below Healthy People 2020 targets. There is an urgency to identify strategies that can increase exclusive breastfeeding rates to 6 months among the U.S. Hispanic population. Community Health Worker (CHW) programs are one of these promising strategies.

This brief report describes two successful CHW-led breastfeeding programs and can be used as a resource for any organization looking to apply the CHWs to their own breastfeeding programs.
