Resources and Reference Materials for Community Health Workers

Community Health Workers (CHWs), known in Spanish as Promotores or Promotoras, are uniquely qualified to offer support and provide health information in hard-to-reach communities because they often share the same socioeconomic background, language, and culture as the members who live within them. Across America, organizations are turning to CHWs to integrate information about health and the health care system into their community’s culture, language, and value system, thus reducing many of the barriers to accessing health services. These resources were created to provide information about the variety of health topics CHWs can help address. Additionally, there are downloadable group activities that are designed to get people moving and provide opportunities for participants to reflect on personal experiences. All resources are available for free and licensed to be distributed for educational use.
