Report: CHWs and Why They Work
Community Health Workers provide leadership, peer education, support, and resources to support community empowerment. As members of minority and underserved populations, they are in a unique position to build on strengths and to address unmet health needs in their communities.
CHWs may encompass a wide variety of roles and be referred to by a number of titles but generally, their primary role is linking vulnerable populations to health care or social systems. CHWs are effective because they use pre-existing networks and culturally appropriate messages to access populations that have traditionally had poor access to health care systems.
