3 MHP Salud Promotoras

Promotor(a) de Salud Manual (English)

In many Spanish-speaking communities, Community Health Workers are referred to as Promotoras de Salud. Although there is no difference between the two, Promotoras de Salud is used so that they can better integrate information about health and the health care system into the community’s culture, language and value system, thus reducing many of the barriers to accessing health services. They also help make health care systems more responsive. With the appropriate resources, training, and support, Promotoras improve the health of their communities by

  1. Linking their neighbors to health care and social services
  2. Educating their peers about disease and injury prevention and
  3. Working to make available services more accessible and mobilizing their communities to create positive change

The 146-page English-language Promotora de Salud Manual offers an overview of basic health issues. We have placed focus on prevention, early detection, and referrals.
